Steelworkers claim ATI lockout is unlawful

The United Steelworkers union has filed unfair labor practice charges against Allegheny Technologies Inc. with the National Labor Relations Board, claiming Pittsburgh-based ATI’s lockout is unlawful.

The Steelworkers said international vice president Tom Conway was scheduled to give an affidavit to the NLRB on Wednesday.

ATI locked out about 2,200 workers, including about 40 workers at its plant in Lockport, on Aug. 15 after the two sides failed to reach agreement on a new labor contract. They are set to resume bargaining, along with a federal mediator, on Friday and Saturday.
