Buffalo pre-K students to get emotional skills lessons

Buffalo Public Schools officials say they will allocate $100,000 to provide an emotional skills program for 2,200 pre-K students through the Mental Health Association.

Superintendent Kriner Cash and associate superintendent Will Keresztes are scheduled to announce the new program, “Teaching Kids to Care,” Wednesday morning in School 61 Arthur O. Eve School of Distinction, 453 Leroy Ave. Officials say the funding also will allow the association to offer its “Too Good for Violence” program at two additional Buffalo schools.

The six-lesson Basic Emotional Skills Program helps children learn how to express their feelings appropriately, how to make and keep friends and how to handle conflict peacefully.
