Use caution on water to keep everyone safe
As the summer winds to a close, I applaud Doug Swift at RiverWorks for his vision that helped make it one of the most memorable in our city’s history. RiverWorks has quickly become the destination point for water sports enthusiasts, bicyclists and anyone just wanting to kick back and enjoy our glorious summer.
I’ve noticed as the summer progressed that the kayakers and paddleboarders have adjusted to the rules of the water, but the same can’t be said for those speed boaters and Jet Skiers. It’s important that they respect the no-wake zone because even at minimal speeds their waves cause kayakers to be sprayed with large amounts of water, which at times make it impossible to navigate and could cause a serious accident or even a drowning. Knowledge of the rules of the river and mutual respect will enable everyone to enjoy our beautiful river in a safe way.
