Trouble came in threes for the Buffalo Bisons as they lost 12-2 to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders at PNC Field on Thursday.
Rob Segedin’s two-run double highlighted the RailRiders’ three-run third inning. They followed with another three runs in the fourth inning, with all three runs coming on Slade Heathcott’s home run to center field. Scranton scored another three runs in the fifth, highlighted by Gregorio Petit’s two-run home run.
The Bisons went 1 for 8 with runners in scoring position and left 11 runners on base.
An even earlier deficit: Gregorio Petit scored on Kyle Higashioka’s groundout to give the RailRiders a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
Pitchers of record: Andrew Albers fell to 2-11 for Buffalo after allowing seven runs on 10 hits in four innings. Johnny Barbato earned the win.
Hague watch: International League MVP Matt Hague picked up two more hits, pushing his season total to 175. With four games remaining, he trails franchise-leader Jhonny Peralta by six hits.
Bisons runs: Jon Berti brought home Andy Burns on a single in the fourth and the Herd scored in the fifth when Ty Kelly scored on Alex Hassan’s sacrifice fly.
Roster move: John Anderson was promoted from Double-A New Hampshire to the Bisons before Thursday’s game. Anderson was 6-6 with a 4.62 ERA in 28 games with the Fisher Cats.
Up next: The Bisons finish their season series with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Friday at 7:05 p.m. Buffalo sends Chad Jenkins (8-5, 2.98) against Chris Capuano (1-1, 1.61). These pitchers faced each other Aug. 30. The RailRiders won 2-0 and Capuano tossed 3∏ shutout innings.
