A small window into how problematic leadership planning is in Buffalo Public Schools occurs every August. That's when The Buffalo News asks the district which schools will be seeing a change in leadership and who the new principals are -- and doesn't get answers.
The district rarely has a completed list of principal changes before the start of the new school year. This year is no exception, even though school starts Thursday and Darren Brown, chief of human resources, expressed confidence early last month that this year would be different.
For each of the past three years, The News has asked the district to complete a basic chart stating who the new principals are, which schools they will lead, and what happened to the last principal who was assigned there. That way, parents know what to expect as they send their children off to class.
This year, we asked for an updated chart on Monday, Aug. 17 and were told the chart would be returned to us "soon." Then, for a couple days last week, we were told to expect it "tomorrow." On Tuesday, Brown sent a partial list of principal changes, and said interviews were continuing next week for principal assignments at other schools.
We asked which schools still need final principal assignments so we could let parents know, but didn't hear back. If and when we do get one, we'll write an update.
So, for what it's worth, here's the list of four principal changes we know of so far: Principal changes 2015-2016
