Senior Kyle O’Donnell (three-year starter at QB) and Matt Andrews (OL/LB) are two more seniors expected to play a major role yet again this season. Other defensive players to keep an eye on include Adam Oakes (DT) and Caleb Hibit (S). The Timberwolves return seven offensive and six defensive starters.

Outlook: Ty Harper and the Wolfpack know all about mergers. Last year was the first season of the Clymer/Sherman merger. The team struggled, but now will be adding a 5-3 Panama team. Both the Clymer/Sherman squad from last season and Panama return more than half of their offensive and defensive starters. Junior QB/CB Justin Suetz and skill position players like seniors Josh Eddy (WR), Jack Payne (WR), juniors Korey Ayers (RB) and Kolby Parks (WR) will lead the offense. The O- and D-lines will feature seniors Sam Van Valkenburg (first-team all-league), Brandon Metzer and Tanner Newman.

Frank./Ellicottville Titans (8-2)
Coach: Chad Bartoszek, second season
Home field: Ray Gray Field
Program founded: 2014
Outlook: Franklinville/Ellicottville, which also includes players from West Valley, made it to the D final last year and returns senior quarterback Thomas Easton, who at 6-1, 175 pounds is a beast in the weight room with the ability to bench 275. The team returns only four starters on offense and four on defense. “We lost some very good players and this will put a lot of pressure on our seniors to really step up,” Bartoszek said. “We have a nice group of young talent on its way from an undefeated JV.” Caleb Rinko (RB/DB), Jonas Hurlburt (RB/DL) and William Bays (OL/LB) are among seniors to play a key role.

Outlook: The Bears return nine starters on both offense and defense from last season, which has to excite Gray. Seniors Brady Collier (QB), Josh Peterson (LB), Christian Proctor (DB) and Kole Brink (WR) will be key to this year’s team. Underclassmen Cordell O’Brien, Cole Gregory (first-team all-league OL) and Jarod Sanfilippo will also play big roles.

Portville Panthers (5-4)
Coach: Gary Swetland, 25th season
Home field: Portville Field
Program founded: 1921
Outlook: Portville, which won the Class DD (lower-division of Class D) final at Ralph Wilson Stadium last season, returns senior QB Sean Harris. It will be his second year as the starter and Swetland said he throws the ball well but is “just as capable of running it. His athleticism is his strength.” The senior-rich squad also returns Grant Milne (OL/LB), Mitchell Yehl (TE/DE) and Jayce Freeborn (RB/LB). During camp, the Panthers are focusing on the little things, the “unglamorous things,” Swetland said.

Randolph Cardinals (12-1)
Coach: Brent Brown, third season
Home field: Raymond Van Wile
Program founded: Unknown
Outlook: Randolph knows a little something about winning. The three-time defending state champs won a 48-41 shootout to take the D state crown. Although the team can control its losses on the field, off the field losses are inevitable. Co-state Class D players of the year in quarterback Bryce Morrison and OL/DL Michael Bowers are two of five all-staters who graduated. The Cardinals do return first-team all-league seniors Devyn Nelsen (running back), Mason Bosley (tight end) and Tyler Stahley (defensive back).
