Albert H. Sager, a former West Seneca highway superintendent, died Aug. 22 at Autumn View Health Care Facility in Hamburg. He was 89.
Born at home in West Seneca, Mr. Sager served in the U.S. Army in the 762nd Railroad Shop Battalion during World War II from 1944 to 1946.
He worked for the Town of West Seneca for 36 years. He started in the Highway Department, and eventually ran and was elected to two terms as highway superintendent. He retired in 1984.
He was a member of the New York State and Erie County associations of town highway superintendents.
Mr. Sager was a member of Union Fire Company for 66 years, serving as president in 1952 and chief from 1956 to 1958.
He belonged to Harvey Morin Post 2940 and Post 8113, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Post 735, American Legion. He also was a member of the Gardenville Country Club, Trail Blazers Rod & Gun Club and Erie County Conservation Society. He was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by three daughters, Judy Hernandez, Kathy and Nancy.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Hoy Funeral Home, 3855 Seneca St.
