Seal & Design acquires Syracuse company

Seal & Design, a Clarence-based gasket and seal maker, has acquired Syracuse-based Higbee Inc., a company in the same industry.

Terms of the deal, which was completed on Monday, were not disclosed. Higbee’s name will change to Seal & Design, Higbee Division.

Higbee was founded in 1932 by Lyman Higbee and had been run by his son, Larry. It has about 40 employees.

Companywide, Seal & Design now has about 145 employees, spread across its locations in Clarence, Toronto and Syracuse, said Dean S. Penman, the company’s president.

Seal & Design this summer completed a 40,000 square foot expansion of its Clarence facility that brought the site’s total size to 91,000 square feet.
