Dia Simms, a top executive with Sean “Diddy” Combs’ business ventures, will be the keynote speaker Saturday at an event for women entrepreneurs, professionals and community leaders.
Women In The Spotlight GoinGlobal’s fifth annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Templeton Landing, 2 Templeton Terrace.
Simms, president of Combs Wine & Spirits, oversees the Circo Ultra Premium Vodka and luxury tequila DeLeon brands. She is also responsible for the strategic execution of all brands under the House of Combs, including Revolt TV and Sean John clothing line.
Simms began working for Combs, the rapper-producer turned entertainment mogul, in 2005 as his assistant and chief of staff at Bad Boy Entertainment. In the ensuing decade, she rose through Combs Enterprises, holding various positions at different companies, including executive vice president of the Blue Flame Agency, Combs’ advertising and marketing firm. In 2011, Simms was named a “Leader of the New School” by Essence Magazine.
The event will also feature Lynita Mitchell-Blackwell, an attorney, author, magazine publisher, certified life coach and co-host of a local TV show in Georgia. Simms will also be interviewed by Mitchell-Blackwell during the brunch. Local radio personality Adriana “ADRI V” Viverette-Gamble, who hosts “The Go Getta Mix” on WBLK-FM, will give opening remarks.
Michelle Barron, CEO and founder of WITSGG, started the group in 2010 as a Facebook page for local women. It now has more than 2,300 members around the country with chapters in Charlotte and Atlanta. The group offers webinars, resources and workshops, covering various aspects of business development year round. The empowerment brunch is its premier event. A portion of the proceeds from the event go to Dress for Success, the nonprofit organization that helps disadvantaged women prepare to enter the workforce.
