Lackawanna soccer field to get $125,000 makeover

A Lackwanna soccer field is set for a $125,000 makeover, Assemblyman Sean Ryan announced Friday.

The soccer field on Lehigh Street in the city’s First Ward is used by the Yemen Soccer League and its more than 300 members, said First Ward Council member Abdulsalam K. Noman.

Ryan joined Lackawanna Mayor Geoffrey M. Szymanski, Noman, Second Ward Council Member Annette Iafallo and youth soccer players for a tour Friday of the soccer field on Lehigh Street. Upgrades are scheduled to begin soon and will include new turf, modern drainage systems, new signage, and landscape improvements. The work should be complete by late next year, said Ryan.

“This new soccer field will be a great addition to Lackawanna’s First Ward,” said Ryan. “Lackawanna youth deserve to have a modern, fully functioning soccer field to use in competition, and for play and exercise.”
