Erie County sheriff deputies Thursday afternoon smashed a rear window of a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Route 39 in the Town of Sardinia to provide first aid to a woman who then was taken to a local hospital, the department reported.
Deputies Robert Ellis and Thomas Meredith responded about 4 p.m. Thursday to reports of a vehicle parked on the side of the road with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. When the deputies arrived, they found the 57-year-old woman unresponsive and broke the rear window to gain access to her.
The deputies initiated preliminary first aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The first responders’ treatment revived the woman and she was transported to Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville for further treatment and evaluation.
