A 45-year-old Lackawanna man was arrested late Tuesday by detectives from both the Orchard Park Police Department and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office following a continuing investigation that allegedly linked him to at least six smash-and-grab burglaries in Buffalo and the southtowns in recent months.
William A. Bair is currently in custody at the Erie County Holding Center where he is being held on no bail on a number of felony burglary charges.
During a joint press conference Wednesday spokesmen for the two agencies said Bair has been linked to burglaries in Orchard Park, Wales, Blasdell and West Seneca since July 4 and he is the lead suspect in other smash-and-grab burglaries in Buffalo, Hamburg and other West Seneca stores. Scott Zylka of the sheriff’s office said Bair is linked to crimes in which he allegedly smashed out a glass panel in the stores of gas stations, stealing cigarettes and cash and other items before fleeing. Bair faces a series of court proceedings in courts throughout the county over the next few weeks.
