Aggressive dog not enough to prevent Falls burglary

NIAGARA FALLS – A woman told police that she left her door unlocked, believing an aggressive dog was protection enough, but found someone had broken in and stolen her jewelry and cigarettes.

The burglary happened between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday in the 5700 block of Stephenson Avenue. The woman found her dog had been put in the bathroom and various items of jewelry and cigarettes were stolen. The total value was $166. The woman said cash and valuable jewelry also were in the house in plain view, but were not taken.

A witness told police she saw a white male with a medium build wearing khaki shorts and a gray hoodie near the door. The man was riding a bright green bicycle, she reported.
