The Family 25 Inc. will honor five boys basketball players from the area by naming them to the Miguel Respress Team of Student-Athletes for the Decade in a ceremony at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Cheektowaga Town Park Basketball Court.
The student-athletes who will be honored include Cameron Lewis and Chris Minor of Nichols, Jordahn Summers and Matt Cieslik of City Honors and former Canisius player Howard Washington, who currently plays for Montverde Academy in Florida and recently committed to Butler. Washington is Family 25 Inc. student-athlete of the year.
The honorees all started with the program 10 years ago today, one day after the tragic passing of Miguel Respress. Respress was a member of the state Class AA champion Niagara Falls Wolverines who died suddenly after a summer-league tournament basketball game in Los Angeles due to an enlarged heart.
The Family 25 Inc. also will be honoring a future student-athlete of the year from a middle school. The winner will be announced at the event.
All kids and parents are welcome to attend.
