The Western New York Flash being a four-game homestand, hosting the Houston Dash at 7 p.m. Saturday at Sahlen’s Stadium.
It will mark the return of Carli Lloyd, the heroine for the U.S. in their gold-medal performance at the Women’s World Cup and a former member of the Flash.
Only there won’t be a lot of warm and fuzzy memories. At least for Lloyd.
She was traded to Houston in October for Whitney Engen, Becky Edwards and a third round 2016 draft pick.
In an interview with the Democrat and Chronicle, Lloyd was not happy with the way the trade was handled.
“That’s the reason no one wants to go play there,” Lloyd told the Rochester paper. “Because if you don’t treat people with respect, you’re not going to get respect in return and I have lost all respect for the organization. I would never want to play for an organization that doesn’t respect me, doesn’t respect what I do.”
The Flash are 4-5-3 coming off a 3-3 draw with Sky Blue FC on July 19.
Houston is 3-4-5 and played to a 1-1 draw in Kansas City on Monday.
