An Orchard Park real estate investor is buying the now-closed Depew Roller Rink, bringing an end to a longtime local entertainment venue.
Jonathan Schmid has signed a deal to pay $420,000 for the 28,000-square-foot warehouse building at 5287 Transit Road, which closed down a month ago after more than 25 years of operation, in preparation for the sale. Schmid could not be reached for comment on his plans.
The roller rink is owned by South Amboy, N.J.-based Depew Realty Management Corp., a company controlled by Jean M. Durnye and her father, who was the original owner. The family also owned the former Eastern Hills Roller Rink and several locations out of town, but decided three to four years ago to start selling them, said Ed Schultz, owner of Edward Schultz Real Estate in Williamsville, who brokered the Depew deal.
Schultz also handled the sale three years ago of the Eastern Hills location to the Kittinger Furniture Co.
“Roller rinks don’t sell very quickly,” he said.
