“I'm looking forward to continuing to expand my fan base and musical connections at large."
Those are the words of Vin DeRosa, and with influences ranging from roots to reggae, soul to pop, he should achieve just that as over the years he has become one of Buffalo’s most versatile musicians.
From his early days of busking at local coffee shops (“I'd play and sing every song I could think of for glory and some tip money”), to playing Buffalo venues of old like the Continental and Showplace Theater as a teen, the charming performer now finds himself surrounded by a collection of the city’s finest musicians, better known as Vitamin D, playing spaces all over town.
“Nowadays, my band consists of a rotating cast of Western New York's best musical talent,” DeRosa said. “Performing all styles of music, the group is often custom selected for the particular venue that we play based on the demand for one style or another to predominate the set list and or depending on where we're playing, the time of day and to whom we are performing.”
Years of playing live in and around the Buffalo area with the various combinations of his Vitamin D project finally led him into the GCR studios, and more specifically, the hands of studio manager and sound engineer Justin Rose. Rose was instrumental in the “conception and completion” of what would become DeRosa’s “Hesitate" EP.
“His mix and masters of the release are deep, rich, and lush, and reveal the great texture and breath that permeate through the performances,”DeRosa said of Rose.
The five-track release owes as much to DeRosa’s years of hard work and genre-spanning styles as it does to his musical friends who helped him along the way.
“The EP features beautiful playing by some of my most admired and prolific musicians (friends) who have worked with me on live stages over the years and who blessed me with their time, talent and life force,” DeRosa said.
The musician will celebrate the release of his “Hesitate" EP on July 22 at Larkin Square with a bustling crowd at the weekly Live at Larkin series. With an expected attendance of close to 2,000 people (weather permitting), DeRosa, along with Vitamin D keyboardist Toney Rhodes who is kicking the show off at 5:30 p.m., has the perfect opportunity to win over a part of the fan base he so wishes to attain. Further event details can be found here.
“People who make it down to the show can expect to hear the freshest sounds representing our great city,” DeRosa said. “Players from many different backgrounds will be coming together to create a ONELOVE experience full of nourishing and uplifting vibrations.”
