Sean M. Fahey of Williamsville, a local bicycle enthusiast, died unexpectedly July 13 at the Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. He was in Chicago to attend a Grateful Dead concert. He was 54.
Born in Bath, Mr. Fahey graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1979 and studied filmmaking and communications at the University at Buffalo. He received a nursing degree from Erie County Community College and served as a registered nurse in various departments at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital for 20 years, retiring from the orthopedic department.
An avid lover of music who attended many rock concerts over the years, Mr. Fahey also had keen interest in researching musicians.
Mr. Fahey also had a passion for bicycling and participated every Sunday in a community midnight bike ride. He was a longtime member of Go Bike Buffalo, a nonprofit organization working to create healthy, environmentally sustainable, community-friendly transportation options in the City of Buffalo. He also was a member of Buffalo Slow Roll, a bicycle group that meets every Monday night to explore different venues and take a unique route through the city. He provided music with a sound system he devised on the back of his bicycle.
Mr. Fahey was very artistic, and enjoyed creating collages and assemblages. His hobbies included photography and filmmaking.
Survivors include his parents, Jerry Fahey and Sylvia Fahey Kleindinst; a brother, Dennis; and a sister, Valerie.
A memorial service will be held at 8 p.m. July 27 at Perna Funeral Home, 1671 Maple Road, Amherst.
