Pride Path: Beach party, corn roast and burlesque

Is your favorite bar stool at the local watering hole starting to perfectly conform to the shape of your body? Or maybe the seat of your favorite recliner? It happens to the best of us. Try something a little different this week.

Out for Business at the Beach, 5 to 7 p.m. July 23 at Woodlawn Beach Tiki Bar (3580 Lakeshore Road, Blasdell)

Pack a change of clothes before you head to the office, because it’s Beach Day for Buffalo’s most popular LGBT networking happy hour. Dress accordingly.

You might remember Pride 2013’s official shoreline party at Woodlawn Beach. For this evolution of the event, hopefully the sun decides to make an appearance. Either way, the tiki bar will be all abustle with folks looking to make new connections — for business and pleasure.

Food will be available and first drinks for the first 50 to arrive are on the Pride Center of WNY.

Imperial Court Corn Roast, 3 to 8 p.m. July 26 at Ohm Ultra Lounge (948 Main St.)

Nothing tells your tummy it’s summer like tucking into an ear of fire-roasted corn on the cob. Imperial Court Dowager Emperor Eli Davis Capone knows all about that, and he picked one of the best patios in LGBT Buffalo to stage his husking festivities.

The expansive outdoor space, both covered and uncovered, concrete and green, means a successful summer barbecue rain or shine. Plus, folk jazz band The Wakos perform. You may remember them from Buffalo Pride Festival’s Chroma LGBT Art Exhibition.

The full summer buffet is $10, and all proceeds benefit the charities of the Court, including Buffalo United Artists, Evergreen Health Services and embraceWNY.

Infringement Festival Burlesque, 7 – 10 p.m. July 26 at Dreamland Arts Space (387 Franklin St.)

The 2015 Buffalo Infringement Festival is in full swing by now, and the organizers have spent the past few years ensuring the festival features art that is “queer-proud”— art that openly and unashamedly celebrates queer culture.

Dreamland is the perfect fit for this “Body Positive” production by a cast of burlesque performers who have been making a noteworthy splash around town as of late. Leslie Jean, Trixi Firecracker, Rita Sanchez and Randy Strokes can also be seen at Underground’s monthly burlesque show and Ohm Ultra Lounge’s 716 Rust Belt Kings.

Door donations appreciated. Pay what you can.
