Ch.7's Gruenauer heading to Denver; Ch.4's Shapiro expected back soon

Channel 7 reporter Jason Gruenauer is leaving for a bigger market.

Channel 4 anchor-reporter Nalina Shapiro is expected back at work this week.

First things first.

Gruenauer, who joined Channel 7 in 2010 straight out of Syracuse University, is leaving the station on Aug. 7 to head to another E.W. Scripps station in a bigger market.

A Western New York native, Gruenauer will be joining KMGH-TV in Denver – the No. 17 market in the country -- to work on a news magazine show program called “The Now.“

Gruenauer’s decision a while back to pass on an opportunity to go to the sports department clearly has paid off for him.

Shapiro’s absence from Channel 4 has led to several inquiries from readers.

She has been off for a few weeks due to complications after having her tonsils removed.

Shapiro expects to return Wednesday if she can speak normally and the muscles around her throat have healed.
