Veteran long distance runner/road race contributor Dr. Michael Curry was the recipient of the prestigious Pink Flamingo Award in conjunction with the 35th annual Subaru Buffalo 4-Mile Chase. The award goes to an individual who goes “above and beyond the call of duty” for those who volunteer their time and services at local road races throughout Western New York. Barbara Fatta Mason was the female recipient.
BASEBALL: The 10th annual DeMarini/Wilson Skills Instructional Showcase will be held Aug. 2 at Elmira’s Dunn Field from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. The showcase is open to any top high school prospect looking to further their career at the college or professional level. Cost is $150 and includes lunch. Instruction will be given in all areas of the game and athletes will be tested in the 60-yard dash, arm strength evaluations from primary positions and live batting practice. TENNIS: Chestnut Ridge Conservancy and the Erie County Parks Department announce the first Chestnut Ridge Summer Classic Tennis Tournament at Chestnut Ridge Park tennis courts from August 27-August 30. Draws are open to all ages: men and women, singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. Fees are single entries, $20; double entries, $10 per person. Each entry guaranteed two matches; winner is best-of-three sets. First and second place trophies will be awarded; complimentary food is available.
