She considered herself a native Floridian since childhood. She was a graduate of Florida Southern College, Lakeland, FL., past president of the Alpha Chi Omega Chapter, and very active in her local Pan-Hellenic and monthly book club. After earning her Masters Degree in education from the The University of New York at Buffalo, she was a teacher and substitute for many years in the Amherst School District. She is survived and will be sadly missed by her beloved children, Cheryl (Jamie) Catley, Marcy (Victor) Barberio, and Donna (Brian) Vogel; loving grandchildren, Duncan, Hazel, Olivia, Victor, Madisyn, and Brayden; dearest brother, Rufus (Gail) Holzbaur; her current husband Harvey D. Sanford; and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Gretchen met her former spouse of 24 years, the late Willis Wink, Jr., at Florida Southern College, and moved to Buffalo following graduation. While raising her family, she enjoyed many years of boating on Lake Erie and was a longtime member of the Swiftwater Power Squadron and Women's Auxiliary. The family will be present on Thursday July 23, 2015 from 4-6 PM at the (Amherst Chapel) AMIGONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 5200 Sheridan Dr. (at Hopkins Rd.), where a Funeral Service will immediately follow at 6 PM. Family and friends invited. Flowers gratefully declined. If so desired, memorials may be made in Gretchen's memory to the South Area Adult Education Center at 1262 S.
