Sweeny, Dale H. "Penny" (Haefner)

Sweeny - Dale H. "Penny" (nee Haefner) Penny was born in Buffalo and spent 40 years as a Special Education teacher. She retired in 2006 and relocated to The Villages, FL in 2011. She quickly fit in playing cards, making dolls, knitting, going to lunch or having fun and always with her friends. Her other love was the summer house on Lake Erie, spending countless hours tending to rock gardens, reading, walking the beach or simply watching the sun set.
Her passion for football and especially her beloved Bills ran deep and she never ever lost faith no matter how may losing seasons, watching each and every Sunday and always counting the days to the football season began each fall. Indeed, love and fidelity were to be the constants throughout her 68 years. She battled her disease heroically for 3.5 years and when the days became harder, she never bemoaned the illness, facing it with uncommon grace, courage and dignity and with the great sense of humor for which she had always been known. She passed away in the way she wanted, in her home, surrounded by her family and leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Jonathan, her children, Bridget, Elizabeth and Brendan and two sisters, Lynn (Sullivan) and Patricia (Vega).
Her unbridled spirit, warm smile and always a kind and gentle word to every one she met and came in contact with will forever live on in many wonderful memories. In celebration of penny's life, a Memorial mass will be held in Western NY at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 157 Cleveland Drive, Cheektowaga, NY on Saturday July 25, 2015 at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to any of these organizations. Ovarian Cancer Research Fund
