Factory Sleep Shop shutting down

Mattress retailer Factory Sleep Shop is closing its doors.

Jim Pachioli started the company in 1961 when he bought a mattress store in Cheektowaga. His son, Wayne, grew up in the store, and started full-time in 1983 after graduating college. He took the helm after his father’s death in 1999.

Factory Sleep Shop has locations at 4125 McKinley Parkway in Hamburg and 1030 Niagara Falls Blvd. in the Town of Tonawanda. The stores will run going-out-of-business sales beginning Saturday, and new orders will be taken for the next three weeks, at discounted prices. Pachioli expects the store to close for good by around Labor Day.

The Niagara Falls Boulevard store, which is also the site of the company’s warehouse, was sold.

“I thought it was a good time to take the opportunity to retire,” Pachioli said.

The company was known for its once ubiquitous commercials featuring the raspy-voiced elder Pachioli wearing boxing gloves and delivering the slogan, “Nobody beats us, we guarantee it.”
