A police officer is down amid reports of an active shooter at a military facility in Chattanooga, Tenn., the city’s mayor said Thursday.
“We have someone out there shooting at our Army Reserve center,” Mayor Andy Berke said on local TV.
The Navy confirmed a shooting at its reserve center on Amnicola Highway and confirmed it is also investigating reports of a shooting at a recruiting center on Lee Highway.
Earlier, the mayor had tweeted that there was a “Horrific incident in our community. We will release details as they are confirmed. Prayers to all those affected.”
Both Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., and Chattanooga State Community College were on lockdown as police searched for a shooter. Chattanooga State is one mile from the Armed Forces Career Center.
Police have set up roadblocks near the community college at Highway 153 and Amnicola Highway and about 5 miles down the highway toward downtown, said Eva Lewis, a public information officer for Chattanooga State.
“At this point we don’t even know if whoever did this is nearby,” Lewis said. “We have no information, and we are staying put until we get official word.”
