Daemen College has received the NCAA's recommendation for advancement to Division II athletics and will begin competing at the scholarship level in the upcoming academic year, the school announced Thursday afternoon. A news conference will be held at Daemen on Monday afternoon and include President Dr. Gary A. Olson, Director of Athletics Bridget Niland, Board of Trustees member Richard J. Day and women's basketball player Natalie Galus.
Daemen was first accepted into the NCAA Division II membership process in 2012. Full acceptance means that the school will compete in 2015-16 as a full-fledged, championship-eligible member of the East Coast Conference and NCAA in 15 of its 16 sports. The exception is women's triathlon, which is not a conference or NCAA championship sport.
