Buffalo woman accused of striking infant during argument

A Buffalo woman is accused of striking an infant Thursday afternoon during an altercation with another woman on the East Side, police reported.

Orquidea Cruz-Rodriguez, 41, of Albany Street was charged with third-degree assault, second-degree menacing, second-degree reckless endangerment and second-degree harassment.

Marilyn Rivera, 43, told Northeast District officers that Cruz-Rodriguez allegedly picked up a knife during an argument just before 2:30 p.m. in the 100 block of Hempstead Avenue and began swinging it around while Rivera was holding her 1-year-old child, according to a report.

Rivera told officers that Cruz-Rodriguez also attempted to punch her but struck the child who suffered chest and neck scratches, the report stated.
