State Police patrols will be focusing on Thruway traffic this week, in a crackdown on speeding and aggressive driving near construction zones.
“Operation Work Brake” began Monday and runs through Friday. It was created following the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, which increased penalties for those convicted of speeding within them.
The goal of the operation is to make motorists aware of the presence of workers in construction zones and to reduce the number of hazardous violations in and around them.
During the 2014 campaign, more than 2,500 tickets were issued statewide; more than half of them were related to speed violations, according to police.
