Channel 4 sports reporter and anchor Lauren Brill is leaving the station at the end of the month.
Brill, who arrived at the CBS affiliate three years ago from a 24-hour high school sports network, MSG/Varsity, hasn’t announced her departure. However, the station is advertising for a sports anchor and reporter on its website and a source confirmed the opening is for her job.
According to the source, Brill made the decision to leave before Channel 4 had to decide whether to keep her when her contract expired in August.
It is unclear if she has another job. However, the source indicated that her abrupt departure suggests that she most likely has an opportunity elsewhere or else she would likely want to stay until her replacement is found.
Brill’s departure after the end of the July sweeps – the least important of the four periods that have been important to advertisers – will put pressure on Channel 4 to quickly find a replacement.
With Brill's departure, only weekday sports anchor Steve Vesey will be left on the station's sports staff until her replacement is found.
With the Buffalo Bills training camp opening in a few weeks, the University at Buffalo football season opening in September, high school sports gearing up for the fall and the Buffalo Sabres training camp soon following, it soon will be the busiest time of the year for sports.
