Catholic Health System is holding an event Tuesday to mark the completion of its merger with Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center in Lewiston.
The merger between Catholic Health and Mount St. Mary’s was announced in April 2014 and was approved by the state Health Department in December. Mount St. Mary’s officially joined the hospital system on July 1, the same date Gary C. Tucker took over as president and CEO of the Lewiston hospital from Judith A. Maness.
Mount St. Mary’s has 633 employees and no layoffs were made as part of the merger. In announcing the agreement, hospital and system officials said it will allow for improved efficiencies and offer the Lewiston hospital access to Catholic Health’s administrative, corporate and specialty medical services.
Catholic Health took ownership of the 175-bed hospital from Ascension Health, which continues to operate Our Lady of Peace, Mount St. Mary’s skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility. Mount St. Mary’s retains a connection to Ascension because Catholic Health is a member of the national system.
Tuesday’s event begins at 1 p.m. in the west parking area of the Mount St. Mary’s hospital campus, 5300 Military Road, Lewiston. Scheduled speakers include Tucker, Maness and Monsignor Robert Zapfel, a member of Catholic Health’s board of directors.
