Lackawanna police have arrested Daniel Whiting, 27, and charged him with the murder of his wife, Ashley Whiting, on the first day of July, Chief James L. Michel Jr. said Saturday.
Whiting was arrested Saturday morning at the Erie County Medical Center and transported to the Lackawanna Police Department. He was arraigned by Judge Frederick Marrano on a charge of second degree murder and remanded to the Erie County Sheriff’s Holding Center without bail.
Police were called to the Whitings’ residence on Madison Avenue early the morning of July 1 where both were found stabbed.
Ashley Whiting, 21, had been stabbed multiple times and was dead.
Daniel Whiting was stabbed several times and transported to ECMC.
Two young children in the residence who were not hurt were turned over to close family members.
Throughout the investigation, numerous pieces of evidence were collected and sent to the Erie County Central Police Services Lab for fingerprint and DNA analysis. After examining the results along with the statements that were taken during the investigation, it was determined that Daniel Whiting was the suspect, Michel said in a statement.
Captain Joseph Leo led the investigation.
