Patrick R. Pujolas, retired Amherst personnel chief

June 22, 1936 – July 7, 2015

Patrick R. Pujolas, of East Amherst, retired personnel director for the Town of Amherst, died Tuesday at Weinberg Campus in Getzville. He was 79.

Born in Buffalo, Mr. Pujolas grew up on Michigan Avenue. The son of Irish immigrants, he held dual Irish and American citizenship. He graduated from Bishop Fallon High School and Canisius College.

After serving stateside in the Army, Mr. Pujolas worked for the state Department of Labor, the Wurlitzer Co. and the Erie County Personnel Department.

In 1974, he became Amherst’s first personnel director, a position he held for 24 years until his retirement in 1998. During that time, he served on the board for BlueCross BlueShield. He also was a member of the National Public Employer Labor Relations Association, as well as other labor relations and personnel groups.

Mr. Pujolas supported various veterans and charitable organizations. He was active in politics, enjoyed tennis and was an avid golfer who could often be found on Town of Amherst courses on weekend mornings. He had a good sense of humor, a boisterous laugh and a good singing voice.

Mr. Pujolas enjoyed spending time with his seven grandchildren, who carried on the tradition of calling him “Mr. Wonderful” as his own children had done when they were young.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Carol M. Dold; a son, Patrick Jr.; two daughters, Kelly A. Marciano and Colleen M. Norris; a brother, William; and a sister, Eileen Godzich.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 200 St. Gregory Court, near Maple Road in Amherst.
