LEWISTON – Mount St. Mary’s Hospital’s Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine is the first center in Niagara County to receive full national accreditation with the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society, according to an announcement issued by the hospital on Wednesday.
The wound care center at Mount St. Mary’s has been operated in collaboration with Precision Health Care of Boca Raton, Fla. since 2005, which also operates centers that are accredited in Rochester and Olean.
Marc Kaiser, president and CEO of Precision calls the application for accreditation a rigorous process and noted that full accreditation is awarded only to Centers that meet the highest standards in the industry.
There are about 1,000 Wound Centers in the 4,600 hospitals in the U.S. and Mount St. Mary’s has become the 216th hyperbaric program to achieve the UHMS Accreditation.
The wound center provides advanced therapies for patients with chronic, difficult-to-heal wounds. The Center uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy as one of the adjunctive treatments. Doctors Lujean Jennings, Judy Weslowski and Rosie Byers are also affiliated with the Center and provide physician hyperbaric oversight.
