A Marilla man accused of driving under the influence of drugs has been charged in Tuesday’s head-on crash in Wales that killed a 9-year-old girl and critically injured the female driver.
Mark W. Korzelius, 52, was charged by the Erie County Sheriff’s Office with second-degree vehicular manslaughter and driving while impaired by drugs, authorities said Wednesday.
The investigation continues and more charges may be pending against Korzelius.
Korzelius was driving on Two Road, near the intersection of Route 20A, at about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck another vehicle head on, sheriff’s officials said.
The driver of the other vehicle, Gail Hoffman, no age or address available, and a 9-year-old passenger were transported to Mercy Hospital, where the little girl died from her injuries. Hoffman is listed in critical condition, officials said.
A third passenger in Hoffman’s vehicle, a 7-year-old girl, was treated at the scene and released. The names of the two girls have not yet been released.
Hoffman is a family friend of the two girls.
