Buffalo micro-grid project gets grant

Proposals to create standalone energy systems for portions of downtown Buffalo and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus are among five micro-grid projects selected to receive funding from a state-sponsored competition.

The proposals to create a pair of micro-grids in Buffalo, along with similar standalone energy systems in Jamestown, Westfield and Salamanca, were each granted about $100,000 in funding through the state’s NY Prize competition to encourage the development of localized energy grids that would improve efficiency and encourage the use of clean energy, while also allowing the buildings connected to the micro-grid to withstand power outages affecting the utility-operated electricity grid.
