The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra is bound for Artpark this weekend.
At 7 p.m. Saturday, the orchestra presents a tribute to movie composer John Williams. The concert will include music from “Jaws,” “Star Wars” and other famed Williams movie scores. Tickets are $19-$49.
Sunday, the BPO is the headliner on a daylong tribute to the Grateful Dead. Local Deadheads are looking forward to this event particularly because of the orchestra’s historic connection with the band. When Lukas Foss was the orchestra’s music director, he invited the Grateful Dead to perform with the BPO on the stage of Kleinhans Music Hall. It was a concert that, in retrospect, has become legend.
The festivities begin at 2 p.m., with a lineup featuring the Grass is Dead, the Maniacs, Hadyen Fogle, the Growlers Blues Band, and Savannah and the Kings. The BPO performs the music of the Grateful Dead on the Mainstage Theater at 6 p.m., joined by Crazy Fingers. An all-day general admission pass is $12. VIP seating is $39 and includes reserved seating, exclusive bar and dining areas and a commemorative poster. Tickets are available via the Artpark box office, online at artpark.net and by calling (888) 223-6000.
