Mary J. Rinaldo, retired clerk for the City of Buffalo

April 8, 1922 – June 28, 2015

Mary J. “Aunt Jo” Rinaldo, a retired clerk for the City of Buffalo, died June 28 in Beechwood Continuing Care, Getzville. She was 93.

A Buffalo native and lifelong resident, Ms. Rinaldo graduated from Grover Cleveland High School.

Beginning in the 1940s, she worked as a customer service representative for American Airlines for about a decade.

She worked as a clerk in the city’s Division of Licenses from the 1950s until she retired in the 1980s.

Ms. Rinaldo enjoyed traveling and, through her job at American Airlines, was able to travel the world, including Chinatown in San Francisco and England, where she saw the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace. She also traveled to Hawaii and Rome.

Her favorite charities were the SPCA and Buffalo Zoo.

She was known for her sweet spirit, generosity and quick wit, her family said.

Survivors include a 101-year-old sister, Laura Pauly. A Mass of Christian burial was offered Friday in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Amherst.
