David W. Mernan, an Army veteran of the Korean War and president of Mernan Chevrolet, died June 28 in his Williamsville home after an illness. He was 87.
Mr. Mernan was born in Buffalo and lived in the Buffalo area his entire life.
He graduated from Bennett High School and West Point, and earned a master’s degree from the University at Buffalo.
He was an Army lieutenant serving as a tank commander during the Korean War.
Mr. Mernan was president of the Mernan Chevrolet dealership, which closed in 1993 after nearly 50 years of operation.
He enjoyed skiing and opera, was a member of the Buffalo Club and was a season ticket-holder of the Buffalo Bills for 60 years.
Survivors include his wife, the former Linda Birt; four daughters, Charlin Phillips, Linda Mernan, Andrea Mernan and Alana Silver; a son, David; and three grandchildren.
