The 21th Annual Youth Recognition Awards Program recently honored youth volunteers, all of whom exhibited “something special” in the area of community service, said Jim Sieracki, director of the Lackawanna Youth Bureau.

The following outstanding youth volunteers were honored: Evan Balcarczyk, Desiree Torres-Diaz, Autumn Garrett, Regenque Jackson, Alec Matyas, Boston Pokigo, Ali Shawish and Dionti Wright.

This week:

• The Recreation Department is accepting applications for playground watchers for the 2015 summer season beginning Tuesday and running through Aug. 14. Applicants must be residents enrolled in an accredited college or university, or recently graduated from high school. Assignments will be based on seniority and playground availability. Applications are available in the recreation office, room 219, City Hall, 714 Ridge Road.
