One of the most famous people ever known as “Miss” became a “Mrs.” Saturday in Western New York.
Actress, singer and onetime Miss America Vanessa Williams and Jim Skrip of Depew exchanged “I do”s at a private ceremony and then later held an equally private reception.
Details of the nuptials were kept secret.
Last year, Williams announced on a daytime talk show that she and Skrip, a St. Bonaventure University graduate, were going to be married. Her brother, actor Chris Williams, later told News TV Critic Alan Pergament that the wedding would be in Buffalo after Pergament overheard him say he was a Buffalo Bills fan and he would be in the city this year for a wedding.
Williams and Skrip met several years ago while on separate vacations in Egypt. Williams previously told The Buffalo News that she and her daughter were on a Nile cruise when she noticed another tourist in a Sabres shirt.
Williams, 52, whose mother graduated from East High School in Buffalo and is a 1960 alumna of SUNY Fredonia State College, said, “I went up to him and asked him, ‘Are you from Buffalo?’ ”
The two began a long-distance romance. Williams lives near New York City, but she has said she gets to Western New York often.
