The Sabres have signed an O’Reilly – just not the well-known one.
Buffalo reportedly has come to terms on a two-year, $1.4 million deal with Cal O’Reilly, the brother of Sabres first-line center Ryan O’Reilly. TSN reports Cal O’Reilly’s contract is a one-way deal, meaning he’d be paid the same in the NHL or the minors.
The forward is a journeyman who spent last season with Utica of the American Hockey League. He had 10 goals and 51 assists in 76 games, then recorded two goals and 17 assists in 23 playoff games.
O’Reilly has played 113 games in the NHL for Nashville, Arizona and Pittsburgh. He has 13 goals and 28 assists with 12 penalty minutes.
The Sabres are also preparing to extend the contract of Ryan O’Reilly. He has one season left on a two-year, $12 million deal. Wednesday is the first day he and the Sabres can sign a new deal.
