Victim of Somerset two-car crash identified

SOMERSET – Francis Landers, 79, of Barker, has been identified by the Niagara County Sheriff’s office as the fatal victim of a two-car crash at Lake and Hartland roads here about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday.

Landers was a passenger in a van being driven by a 38-year-old home care aide, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said the van driver stopped at the intersection but then allegedly failed to yield the right of way to a Jeep on Lake road. The Jeep struck the passenger side of the van in which Landers was riding.

Coroner Kenneth Lederhouse pronounced Landers dead at the scene.

The driver of the van was taken to the Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo and the 66-year-old woman driving the Jeep was taken to Eastern Niagara Hospital in Lockport.

Neither of the drivers was identified, and both of them were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.
