A truck driver reportedly suffered burns and smoke inhalation when a box truck caught fire Tuesday morning on a ramp leading to the westbound Thruway.
The fire at Exit 49/Depew-Lockport, was reported at about 9:20 a.m. Firefighters arriving on the scene reported the truck was “fully involved” and that the driver had told them there were helium and gas tanks on board.
The on-ramp to the westbound Thruway was closed as crews worked to extinguish the fire and tend to the injured driver, who was taken to Erie County Medical Center.
Damage was estimated at $60,000 by fire officials; $30,000 to the truck and $30,000 to its contents.
The ramp reopened shortly after 10 a.m.
