WNY Refresh: Top 10 calendar picks of the week

WNY Refresh Editor Scott Scanlon plucked the following 10 health and wellness, fitness, nutrition or family events you may want to consider this week:


Pre-K open house: 9 a.m. to noon, Strong Start Early Learning Academy, Church of the Annunciation, 7580 Clinton St., Elma. Event will showcase the academy’s expanding Pre-K program, which will run 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday to Friday in 2015-16 and include before- and after-school drop-off and pick-up options.

International folk: 10 to 11 a.m., a half-hour advanced class following, Unitarian Universalist Church, Elmwood Avenue and West Ferry Street. Cost is $2 per week; for more info, call 816-5049.

Food Truck Tuesdays: 5 to 8 p.m., Larkin Square, 745 Seneca St.; features more than 20 food trucks from across the region as well as musical entertainment and a variety of local art, decor and produce vendors. In cooperation with the Independent Health Foundation, each food truck is required to feature at least one healthy option. For more info, visit

Swing dancing: Buffalo Swing gathers for progressive and beginner lessons from 7 to 8:30 p.m., followed by a Lindy Fix – which features several forms of swing dancing – until 10, Polish Cadet Credit Union, Grant and Amherst streets. Alzheimer’s Respite Care: 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Trinity Old Lutheran Church, 3445 Sheridan Drive, near Sweet Home Road, Amherst. Free. The volunteer staff has been trained by The Alzheimer’s Association and the guests will participate in a variety of activities, as well as receive a nutritious lunch.
