Cheektowaga man gets jail time for beer theft

A Cheektowaga man was sentenced to four months in jail after pleading guilty plea to petit larceny and driving while intoxicated for an incident that occurred last July.

Matthew Zelasko, 29, of Fairvale Drive was accused of stealing several cans of beer from the Noco Express located at 624 Cleveland Drive and then driving away while he was intoxicated last July. He also was accused of striking a Noco employee several times as the employee attempted to stop the theft. Cheektowaga Police Officer Justin Blackchief arrested Zelasko after he was located minutes later, driving a vehicle.

He was charged with petit larceny, harassment, DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle, and multiple other vehicle and traffic charges.

Cheektowaga Town Judge Paul Piotrowski said he considered the serious circumstances surrounding the arrest when imposing the jail sentence.
