Letter: Museum is the only place flag should be displayed

Museum is the only place flag should be displayed

After the recent tragedy in Charleston, where a racist white American shot and killed nine black Americans in their own church, it is time for South Carolina to lower the Confederate flag from its pole at the Capitol for good.

There is no reason for it to be displayed publicly anywhere except in a museum. The idea that the Confederacy was about states rights is a “cover” for what it really was about – slavery.

Seeing the American and South Carolina flags flying at half-staff at its Capitol after the tragedy while the Confederate flag was not lowered was an insult to every American.

Take down the Confederate flag, South Carolina.
