Evicted tenants move out with a little extra

NIAGARA FALLS – After being evicted last week, a couple left a LaSalle Avenue apartment with about $1,700 worth of the landlord’s property, police said.

The property owner, a LaSalle resident, called police on Friday to report that a washer and dryer had been stolen from the home, along with a saw, drill and assorted hand tools. Some smoke detectors also were also missing, police said.

The landlord told police that the tenants had lived in the building for about a year but stopped paying rent three months ago. They were evicted on Monday, and neighbors confirmed they took several items from the home while leaving, police said.
