Quick updates: Gilbert goes to Blackhawks in round 3, Sabres take defenseman Borgen to start round 4

SUNRISE, Fla. -- A big cheer went up to the left of the stage at BB&T Center as St. Joe's product Dennis Gilbert, the defenseman from Williamsville who is headed to Notre Dame, was selected by the Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks with the final pick of the third round, No. 91 overall.

The Sabres immediately followed in the fourth round at No. 92 by taking William Borgen, a Minnesota high school defenseman who has committed to play next year at St. Cloud State.

Gilbert played in the USHL for the Chicago Steel, so there's no doubt Hawks GM and Canisius High grad Stan Bowman and friends had more than a few looks at him. He's the nephew of Mike Gilbert, the Sabres' vice president of public and community relations.

Borgen, who is 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, split this season between high school and Omaha of the USHL. He was ranked 114 among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting.
