The University at Buffalo School of Management has named John D. Cudmore, a 1990 graduate, its 2015 Accountant of the Year. He is senior vice president, finance – divisional operations and strategic planning for the Madison Square Garden Co. The award honors an alumnus who has been successful in the accounting profession and made significant contributions to the School of Management and its students. Cudmore oversees financial matters for all of the company’s operating divisions, a wide array of properties that includes regional sports networks under MSG Media; sports teams like the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and New York Liberty; and the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. He began his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Buffalo, before serving as vice president of finance for the Buffalo Sabres. He moved to MSG in 1998.

Phillips Lytle LLP has been selected to receive the National Legal Aid & Defender Association 2015 Beacon of Justice Award honoring law firms whose pro bono work has expanded opportunities for those unable to afford counsel. Neighborhood Legal Services nominated Phillips Lytle for the NLADA award. The firm donated nearly 4,000 hours of pro bono services in 2014.
The General Motors Foundation and teamGM Cares volunteers from GM’s Tonawanda Engine and Lockport Components plants, and UAW Locals 774 and 686, are partnering with Habitat for Humanity Buffalo to help build a new home for a local veteran family on Busti Avenue in Buffalo. The Buffalo project was made possible by a $1 million grant from the GM Foundation to Habitat for Humanity International. The grant will fund nine home builds in the U.S., with the goal of assisting current and former military service members. Two additional grant-funded projects will take place in Brazil and Nepal.
