High viewership and scenes with Tom Selleck’s mustache via hit CBS drama “Blue Bloods” would qualify as most people’s version of showbiz success. But for Donnie Wahlberg, such triumphs haven’t precluded him from revisiting his first brush with fame: as a member of New Kids on the Block.
Such are the spoils of the nostalgia tour biz, which has allowed Wahlberg – along with NKOTB bandmates Jonathan Knight, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre and Danny Wood – to pack national arenas on tour this summer, including a stop July 2 in First Niagara Center. Supported by fellow former pop titans TLC and Nelly, Boston’s finest will help transport Queen City denizens back to their most awkward teenage stages, with songs like “Step By Step” and “The Right Stuff” acting as audio portals to days festooned with hair-sprayed bangs and worn issues of Tiger Beat. Whether successful TV actors or aging mothers still “Hangin’ Tough,” everybody likes to revisit a positive piece of their past – if only for an evening.
Tickets range from $27 to $89.50 (box office, Ticketmaster).
